
Julie London (nee Peck; September 26, 1926 - October 18 20th, 2000) was an American actor and performer her career spans more than 40 years. London was a torch performer who was known for her soft, smooth vocals. She recorded more than 30 albums of pop and jazz classics from 1955 to 1969. Her debut album "Cry Me a River" was recorded by her and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her character in the role of Dixie McCall, a nurse on Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year acting career began on film in 1944 which included roles for female leads in many westerns. She co-starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) as well as Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) and with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and alongside Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-1950s, she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional career. She released her final studio album in the year 1969, however, she was able to continue to make a name for herself as the female starring role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979), where she was a co-star along with Bobby Troup. The show was directed by her former husband Jack Webb.
